The paradox of hunger
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), almost 1 billion people in the world go hungry. In a world like that, throwing food away seems almost criminal — and yet it is exactly what we do.
The environmental problem
When we waste food, we also waste all the energy and water needed to grow it, harvest it, transport it and pack it. And if that food ends up rotting in a landfill, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas even more powerful than carbon dioxide
